Eligibility for Support
Schools that primarily deliver education in a foreign language to a primarily foreign student body, and that do not fall under Article 1 of the School Education Act, are eligible if they meet one of the following criteria — or are working toward doing so:
- Schools that have obtained approval as a Miscellaneous School (kakushu gakko) under Article 134 of the School Education Act
- Schools that have obtained, or plan to obtain, international accreditation recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a university entrance qualification (WASC, CIS, ACSI, NEASC, Cognia, COBIS) — please refer to the MEXT website for details
- Schools that offer, or plan to offer, an internationally recognized curriculum (IB, Cambridge International, AP)
